This was my first experience of hotel in India. I consider it that is a quite traditional hotel. So, as a complet new thing, it is complicated to define like and don't like; just tell my experience. I arrived at the hotel after midnight (a little bit difficult to find by my taxi driver, but he succeeded after a short while). There was a strong wood door at the entrance, closed. I had to insist a few moment before I heard some noise inside and somebody came to open (however I was aware of that due to comments by other previous traveller, so I did not worried). Two nice people came and help me with my (light) luggage, showed me the room and said that the formalities will be done in the morning. Room was quite small (very small TV) but it had good internet. The shower complicated to use, I did not understand very well, but I did not asked, as for one night I managed in a basic way. Nice typical view of Kolkata from the window. The people in the hotel and around very polite and helpful. And ATM close (I was able to withdraw enough rupias; be aware that once exit from the airport, it is not easy to find exchange offices)

The bed was comfortable, the staff was nice and helpful and everything like the shower and toilet worked excellently. And I love the location of the hotel. In addition, the address of Hotel Cecil is brilliant for people who like to use taxis when returning from a trip. Even if the taxi driver doesn't speak English, he immediately understands College Street / Medical Collage (a large hospital) and across the street 15 meters further up is the Hotel Cecil. No problems with difficult addresses, also an advantage. For me personally, the entire area around College Street became my absolute favorite area in Kolkata. Certainly not for people who are looking for peace and quiet, but they probably shouldn't travel to Kolkata either. College Street is loud and full of life. Just fantastic. I was in Kolkata for 2.5 weeks for work and stayed in different hotels. I would book Hotel Cecil again at any time!

Very clean property with helpful staff. We stayed in the most expensive rooms and found them quite roomy, I think some of the other rooms are smaller. Good shower/ bathroom facilities. We availed of the laundry service and also had breakfast in our room each day both of which were good. Staff assisted us in getting taxi to Howrah station. We h had two separate stays in hotel in separate (largest) hotel rooms. Both stays were excellent, very happy with the service. It is in an area that is handy for getting to the centre of Kolkata and Howrah. The metro is a little bit of a walk away but we don't mind walking. There is a taxi rank across the road as well.

The staff was always a call away which was nice. This building looks very old and has a lot of chai shops on this exact street(Buiding ke neeche to be precise). Room was clean, washroom was well maintained and AC works great. I was there for 5days in a Deluxe suite but to my knowledge it was small considering it was listed under deluxe suite. I had to extend my 5th day stay but the other deluxe suite didn’t look the same. The linens were damaged and they were literally stitched together and being used, Which wasn’t a great experience but had to get through it for that one last day. Could be a great stay if it was maintained correctly.

A very nice hotel in a good location. The hotel management and staff are very kind and helpful. They do a great job at making one fall in love with Kolkata. Their hospitality is one of the best that we experienced so far in India. They wrote down a plan for us to cover Kolkata city in two days time. This is also the only hotel that offered us take away sandwiches for breakfast at an early check-out of 6.30 a.m. Also, make sure you try their Bengali special dinner options :)
